This course focused on the theories and theorist of education. For successful completion of the course, participants completed a reflective paper on school leadership in relation to the theories and theorist.
EDUL 6014 Shared Governance in Schools
This course focused on shared decision making in the school. The course explores the roles of teachers as leaders.
EDUL 6015 Total Quality Management in Schools
Total Quality Management empowers teams to determine a common goal for the school. It is data driven and the students are the focus. TQM encourages evaluation and planning to meet the needs of the school.
EDUL 6016 School Personnel
This course examined the hiring and interviewing process. As part of the course requirements, participants had to create a list of possible interview questions.
EDUL 6017 School Staff Development
This course focused on the need to develop successful professional development plans for schools. Staff development courses should be meaningful and hands-on based on the needs of the students and teachers.
EDUL 6019 Techniques for Teacher Observations
This course focused on informal observations of teachers. Participants had to conduct two teacher observations including pre and post conferences.
EOCS 7450 Leadership Practicum
This course allowed the participant to examine the ILLSC Standards. Participants must create and maintain a professional website to post all assignments. Observations of administrators and teachers were conducted during this class.
EDUL 6020 Principles of Curriculum Design
This course allowed participants to examine the process of curriculum design.
EDUL 6021 Principles of Curriculum Evaluation
This course allowed participants to examine the process of curriculum evaluation.
EDUL 6023 Managing Special Education Programs in Schools
This course required participants to explore the laws concerning special education. Classroom collaboration practices were examined as well.
EDUL 6024 Student Discipline in Schools
This course allowed participants to examine school-wide behavior plans. The course provides examples of how to deal with the most difficult students.
EDUL 6026 Planning for School Improvement
This course allowed participants to create a school improvement plan for a fictitious school. When developing the plan, participants were required to create the mission statement, vision, curriculum focus and goals for the school based on a comprehensive needs assessment.
EDUL 6990 Ethics and School Administration
This course allowed participants to complete group discussions and scenarios concerning ethical situations in a school setting. The chats allowed for different views to be addressed according to ethics laws.
EDUL 6010 School Law for Administrators
This course gives participants the opportunity to explore legal cases in regards to education. Participants were exposed to many examples of school law and how it relates to particular situations.
EDUL 6011 Special Education Law for Administrators
This course focused on meeting the needs of special education students in accordance with the law. The course gives an overview of all special education laws.
EDUL 6012 Law and School Personnel
This course focused on Title VII, Title XI and the Fair Dismissal Law. The information was interesting and very informative for a future administrator. The course also explored the laws on hiring and dismissing school employees.
EDUL 6022 Budgeting and Managing School Accounts
This course focused on district level and school level accounting. The class allowed participants to examine the types of accounting which can be used in schools. The readings allowed participants to examine their own school system’s accounting policies and procedures.
EDUL 6025 Maintaining and Operating Educational Facilities
This course exposed participants to the school planning process. Participants develop a plan for operating the school using faculty members as well as custodial employees.
EDUL 6027 Managing Student Activity Funds
This course allowed participants to examine the law and requirements of the local system concerning activity funds in schools. Participants examined how their school system handles the funds as well as the legal requirements for handling activity funds.
EDUL 6033 Political and Social Context of Education
This course examined the sociopolitical influences on schools. The course allowed participants to examine the need for community members, political figures and other stakeholders to be included in schools
