Conscious discipline is a comprehensive behavior program which empowers both teachers and students. The program is based on brain research, developmentally appropriate practices and child development. It is a philosophy that helps to change the attitudes of all involved. The conference was one week of instruction which immersed the learner in the relationship-building philosophy. The program helps promote positive self-esteem. Dr. Becky Bailey, a former educator, created the classroom/school-wide management philosophy. The program includes all stakeholders of the school. Creating a “school family” is the number one goal of the management system. The information gained during the professional learning experience is related to ELCC standards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Learning Focused Schools
The Learning Focused Schools model is based on exemplary teaching practices. It focuses on successful learning and teaching. Learning Focused is a framework for planning effective classroom lessons. It is based on organizing, planning, curriculum, instruction and assessment. After attending the conference, I had the opportunity to redeliver the information to the teachers in my school as well as implement the strategies in my own classroom. This concept of Learning Focused schools is definitely one which all educators should consider implementing. The Learning Focused model was created by Drs. Max and Julia Thompson, both of whom were former educators. The information gained during the professional learning experience is related to ELCC standards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
